Scrivener: Relearning From Step One

November 5, 2024 By Linda Jo Martin Leave a Comment

It has been awhile since I’ve written anything and I have in mind the idea of relearning how to write creatively.

I’ve had a lot of turmoil in my life the past few years with moving from Idaho back to Northern California, and then the fire that destroyed the new mobile home I moved into. After three years I had a new house built and spent most of this year living in it and furnishing it and getting myself to the point where I feel settled in it again. And now I want to write.

I recently bought a new computer and downloaded a fresh copy of Scrivener. I bought the software about ten years ago at a discount right after one of the NaNoWriMos I participated in. I’ve decided that I’ll go through the entire tutorial. I never did that the first time. I think I just learned enough to use the software for writing novels but didn’t go deep into learning all the bells and whistles available. This time I’d like to do that. I doubt I’ve ever done an entire tutorial on anything. I feel this software is important enough to me that I will want to know as much about it as possible.

Along the way I may write more for children! Or maybe I’ll edit fiction I’ve already written. I have lots of that stored here on my hard drive. I’m excited to have a peaceful life again, and to be able to write.

I tend to focus on the Newbery Medal list of middle grade and young adult novels, but may also review picture books and other children's literature.
